About my blog
Inga’s Creations is a blog that I created to share my homesteading and gardening experiences, herbal knowledge, recipes, reflections, and crafts with you!
Sharing is one thing, but my reasoning behind sharing this information is for you to get inspired to do something similar.
Exposure to flavors and new recipes is always fun, the thoughts and motivation behind homesteading and moving into the direction of becoming more self-sufficient is a whole different story! The thought behind homesteading is not just frugal living – it is a means to take care of yourself no matter how dire of a situation arises. As an extreme, doomsday preppers are the ultimate homesteaders, foraging, living of the land and having an extended storage of foods to sustain yourself for up to a year. The thing is, disaster does not need to be a war or the end of the world as we know it
Think hurricanes, snowstorms, extended poweroutages, shortages on grocerystore products, water contamination events, inflation, job loss, loss of a social support system, medical expenses that are bankrupting you,… all these events can impact you a great deal! Think about the financial impact if you do not need to spend money that you do not have on food because food is growing in your own backyard, think about methods to store your foods for a long time so you can eat them when these foods are not in season, what about when a major life change happens? So many people are living paycheck to paycheck, so many are struggling to keep up with inflation.
My grandparents had the hunger winter in the second world war. There was no food, though let me tell you, my great grandparents were farmers, they bartered and had their own crops so they had food! They even kept a pig in their house to raise and butcher! The idea is to set up a garden when you do have a few extra dollars to get started and then and eating healthier in the process almost immediately and being able to preserve the fruits of your labor for that rainy day. This economy, the war in Europe, and where the world as a whole is headed is flatout scary, and this is really why I feel compelled to share both what I learn, and what I am doing so you can pick and choose if you want to implement any of these ideas.
