In Florida, we had a tankless water heater installed and it saved us 45 percent on our electric bill.

The new house has a guesthouse, both areas have a full kitchen, all electric – dryers are electric, a

, stove and water heaters are electric too. We plan on turning everything except for perhaps the guesthouse dryer, into gas. This should save us significantly on electricity expenses. The propane guy, who came over to walk the house to see about installing the different features stated that it could save us up to $120 in electric if we converted everything. This is significant!

Even if this install costs us $4000, we should break even in about 4 years. On top of this, it is just so much nicer to cook on gas, and the tankless hot water is so much easier! And I will gain about 4 sq ft in each pantry with the water heaters gone. Also, since I enjoy canning, I need gas to create a consistent temperature in my pressure cooker.

I will update when this project is being completed and the final result.
