Apparently, we have hard water, which is fine, though if you do not clean your glass shower doors for five years, they will look like frosted glass only more gross?
So I decided to tackle the shower doors…I tried to remove the soap scum, calcium build up with:
- Vinegar – no result
- CLR – no result
- Purple Power – no result
- Cooktop Cleaner – no result
- Brass Cleaner – no result
- Toothpaste – no result
- Headlight lens restorer – no result
- Rubbing compound – no result
- And finally, I gave up on all chemicals and now we are using a good ole fashioned razorblade.
As long as you wet the window, the razor blade works well. It is a little scary because we do not want to scratch the glass, though it is the most efficient way of removing this build up.
The funny part of this is, the only part we are keeping in this shower is the glass doors. Other than that, we are removing the plastic surround and shower base and we are going to redo it to turn it into a luxury bathroom.
We are for the time being going to recaulk the door since it is leaking when we take a shower and water is seeping into the drywall which will cause issues if we do not take care of it with mold and rot. The inspector did not catch this as part of the VA inspection.

It baffles me that we bought a house that was built in 2018, and I am feeling like I am on episode 312 of “This Old House“.
Builder grade is one thing, shoddy workmanship is another, and then as a homeowner not giving two shits about the condition and maintenance on your new home? That last one absolutely baffles me. I know my husband and I are not perfect, but we at least try to make sure we do not have any leaks or rotting drywall, we make sure the house is clean, well-maintained, free of bugs and defects.
So how is your day going?
